(Русская старина; Old Times in Russia)
Russkaya Starina (Russian: Русская старина; Old Times in Russia) was a Russian history journal published monthly in St. Petersburg by amateur historian Mikhail Semevsky and his successors between 1870 and 1918. Its authors included Ivan Zabelin, Dmitry Ilovaysky, Nikolai Karlovich Shilder, and Nikolay Kostomarov.
Semevsky was highly enthusiastic about the history of 18th-century Russia. His journal covered the imperial period of Russian history, including the era of palace revolutions. It was Russkaya Starina that first brought to light the unpublished pages of Eugene Onegin and Dead Souls, Bolotov\'s memoirs, Kuchelbecker\'s diary, and many other materials long forgotten or repressed by censorship. Semevsky personally persuaded numerous old nobles and bureaucrats to put their reminiscences into writing.
«Ру́сская стари́на» — ежемесячное историческое издание; основано в Санкт-Петербурге в 1870 году М. И. Семевским, но первое время (почти до конца 1877 года), по соображениям служебного характера, оно не могло выходить под именем своего основателя и руководителя и появлялось за подписью В. А. Семевского. Закрыто в 1918 году.
Один из самых ярких журналов. Основной целью журнала было служить разработке русской истории новейшего времени, начиная с Петра I. Иногда, впрочем, в нём помещались и оригинальные исследования из истории допетровской Руси. Как отмечалось в программном объявлении, цель «Русской старины» будет состоять «в ознакомлении ее читателей с „императорским“ периодом отечественной истории и истории русской литературы».
