Molded, high quality, translucent porcelain, spherical form with ruffled rim. The decoration is entirely hand painted and consists of pink and magenta chrysanthemum blossoms around the upper portion. Around the equator of the vase areeight oval reserves each with a single anemone or poppy bloom and all on a ground of solid gold and raised enamel dots also gilded. Rococo scrolls around the lower section. All polychrome enamels and gold applied over a lemon yellow glaze which in turn is on the white surface of the glazed porcelain. The flowers are expertly rendered with all the brio and economy of brush strokes typical of fine Nippon decoration: the highlights of the petals are even picked out in thicker white enamel. This is a highly decorative piece that is a show-stopper wherever it is placed on display. You will not be disappointed!
This vase is marked with an authentic blue over glaze Nippon maple leaf mark alongside the words Hand Painted and is Circa 1890-1910.
There is some wear to the gilding on the handles and rim (please refer to the photos), otherwise in perfect condition, clean and well cared for. No cracks, crazing, chips, staining, hairlines, restoration or repairs of any kind. The vase is 7.1 \" tall x 6.6\" across the handles.
