Genuine antique, Victorian era, 1890s to 1900 French millinery wire. The wire is covered in pure silk for a lovely feel and sheen, and a classic versatile color of midnight black. This is from a milliner shop in Paris, and is old store stock, never used. They no longer make this anymore, and it is quite hard to find this today. This is French,from Paris originally made specifically the for the millinery trade. A milliner or modiste would manipulate this wire by hand and with a pair of tiny pliers, to create intricate wire forms as the base of a hat. The hat would then be covered in sheer silks, chiffon or laces, velvet, straw braids, etc. This is slightly thicker than modern millinery wire, great for hats that need a bit more support. This a sturdy yet flexible steel wire, covered in lustrous pure silk. There are 10 YARDS here in one length, uncut, taken from the original hank/bolt. Great for making bandeau and Fanchon bonnets to cover with laces and flowers for your Civil War headdress. The wire is very flexible, coiled and ready to use. I am not sure of the exact gauge of the wire, so I show it laying next to my fingertip for scale. Easy to manipulate, yet very strong. The perfect way to make your millinery creations unique and give your hats a genuine antique vintage touch. A great tool for the museum curator who demands period materials in their restorations. Perfect for doll hats and millinery, or fairy and Gothic angel wings. minature figures,, etc. Clean, not soiled, and a real treasure for the hat maker or creative artist.
