This large, hard to find medal is a souvenir of the opening of the 1893 Columbian Exposition, the World\'s Fair in Chicago. One side has an image of the landing of Columbus in the \'New World\' - with the words SOUVENIR OF THE OPENING OF THE WORLD\'S FAIR CHICAGO 1893 along the rim. The other side provides a view of the Administration Building at the Fair, with the words SOUVENIR, BIRDSEYE VIEW OF THE WORLD\'S FAIR CHICAGO 1893 along the rim. This medal was struck very well,with extremely detailed, three-dimensional design and very bold lettering. This medal is composed of aluminum, and it measures approximately 40 mm (1-9/16\") in diameter, therefore being termed a so-called dollar.
This item is in good condition, with even wear and soiling, and it is a silver-gray color typical of many aluminum medals and tokens.
