1893 Columbian Exposition Medal Christopher Columbus White Metal Eglit 55Offering a Medal from the 1893 Columbian Exposition and Worlds fair. It has been struck in White Metal and is 2\" (50 mm) in diameter. The reference is Eglit 55.
The obverse is a portrait of Christopher Columbus, holding an unfurled map.
The reverse is two female figures. One is seated, holding the shield of theUnitedStates. The second ispointing towards a scene of the exposition grounds, with the sun rising over Lake Michigan, in thebackground.
There is a touch of rubbing wear at the highest points of the design, with minor dark areas, here and there.
The originalprof - like field have largely clouded over, but are still visible at the edges of the design.The medal in the photos is the one being offered. I invite you to have a good look before buying. It will be carefully packaged for shipment in a non-PVC plastic flip.
