1893 Medal awarded to a New York State veteran of the Battle of Gettysburg. I got the medal from my Father in Law many years ago. I have never found out who the veteran may have been, however I do believe that he must have been from Gloversville or Johnstown NY, or at least from Fulton County. I have found that at least some of the medals had a name or a number on them identifying the veteran, but this medal has no clue as to the identity. I have tried to find a list of NY State veterans and where they were from in NY State in hopes that we can find a name of a family friend. My wife is 83 years old and she could possibly recognize the name of a family friend who might have been that veteran or might have been the family of the veteran. My father in law could not remember where he got the medal. The incident that sparked my interest was as a child I met and shook hands with a Civil War veteran. He must have been very young during his service and might have been a Drummer Boy. Young boys were used as Drummer Boys at that time and I believe that the families were compensated. I have read a lot of material about this time period and probably have forgotten more than now I know. I do remember about one Yankee Drummer boy who during a battle was wounded. A Rebel Soldier carried him for miles to get him medical attention, unfortunately he died before he reached medical help.
