  • SUMMARY (SPECTATOR REVIEW):

    • Naval Cadet is Scotch, of course, and we have the usual preface before embarking on voyages which take in Benin, and end up with the Chino-Japanese War, in which the hero, serving as a volunteer, loses his arm. This story is rather above the average of Dr. Gordon Stables tales ; there is less talking and more doing, and it is really an interesting traveler\'s tale, with plenty of fun and incident in it. We can recommend it to boys, particularly to those who like to see recent incidents worked into a tale of Charles George Gordon CB (28 January 1833 – 26 January 1885), also known as Chinese Gordon, Gordon Pasha, and Gordon of Khartoum, was a British Army officer and administrator. He saw action in the Crimean War as an officer in the British Army. But he made his military reputation in China, where he was placed in command of the \"Ever Victorious Army,\" a force of Chinese soldiers led by European officers. In the early 1860s, Gordon and his men were instrumental in putting down the Taiping Rebellion, regularly defeating much larger forces. is Fair/Good. Some wear to edges, a little soiling to boards, xmas 1899 inscription, some blemishing to first few pages/margins here and there throughout, spotting to extreme edges, text block could be tighter/as issued, would handle with care, hinges are very good!!!
