Original Early American Antique Wrought Iron Candle Spike

Superb example of early American lighting dating from the late 18th, early 19th century, circa 1780-1830

This piece was purchased from a wonderful colonial home in New Hampshire, having been in a private collection for decades amongst other articles of early lighting and primitives (which we also have up currently)

The piece measures 7\" in length.

The spike would have been hammered into a cross beam, or makeshift baseto support a burning candle.

Additionally the loop end would allow the piece to be carried as well as hung from a variety of items (one such popular usage was placing a piece such as this on the slatof a ladder back chair).

The black smith who forged the piece took the time to incorporate the great curled hanging loop and a rolled over collar on the candlesocket.

The spike has some pitting from age, some blackening and soot from age and use, still in solid (about very good) overall condition.
