Estate find! Rare18th Century Spanish Colonial Mexican Silver Plate or Communion Bowl. A Museum quality piece!A fine heavy hand-raised silver plate of excellent quality with a beautiful patina which imparts an incomparably rich and eloquent texture. Measuring 8.75\"in diameter, just over 1 inch in depth, and weighing over 16 ounces. Wrought in the six lobed form it is typical of Spanish Colonial silver work of the 18th and early 19th centuries. On the surface of the plate besides the usual plateros compass point mark are five hallmarks. These are the FCDA mark of the chief assayer Antonio Forcada y la Plaza (1791- 1818), a crown hallmark, the name VERA in a rectangle (possibly the maker\'s mark), and twoother partially obliterated marks. On the back of plate has an assayers zigzag burilada which was etched into the surface to remove small pieces of silver to test for quality.Shipping by priority mail insured.
