ANTIQUE & ORIGINAL WOOD MANDOLIN BOWLBACK WITH MOTHER OF PEARL BUTTERFLY DESIGN AND CARRYING CASE FROM THE LATE 1800\'s or EARLY 1900\'s
This is an old classic antique wood mandolin that I found in my father\'s attic. I don\'t see a makers name on it so I did some research and found that in the late 1800s and early 1900s there were 100s of mandolin makers especially from Italy. This mandolin is very close in style and could have been made by Antonio Grauso from Naples.
The mandolin is in very good condition especially for it\'s age. The wood is in nice shape. The neck, frets, tuners, bridge, face and back are all in very good condition. Some of the inlay is missing from the binding on the bottom of the guitar. The sound hole and pick-guard butterfly design are trimmed in mother of pearl or abalone. The pick-guard came lose (picture #5) and I will let the new owner glue it back as they may want to do some cleaning. There are two small see-thru seams (when looking in the sound hole, picture #11). Three strings are missing, I would suggest a new complete set of strings. The mandolin measures approximately 24 1/2\" long. The original carrying case included is in fair condition and will need new leather hinges.This mandolin is 100% original. I suppose you could replace the missing strings and you\'d have a playable instrument or with some minor inlay work, cleaning and a new set of strings you would have a playable show piece and a bit of history.See pictures fordetails and furtherdescription.
