Thisgorgeous,Art Nouveaustatue clockis out of the estate of a high end collector.
The Cymric model is rare to find with the Green Onyx base. This model usually came with in iron base in faux painted marble. There is no faux painting here, this one was made with Brazilian Green Onyx.I have only seen one or two others in the green onyx over the past 25 years, and both of those had significant damage to the base. Considering this clock is 109 years old, the onyx is in excellent condition. It is very richin color with multi-color veining. None of the onyx is loose. There are a few very tiny fleabites in the onyx as well asa 1/2\" chip on the back of the case that can be seen in the close up photo (veryminor nothingdistracting).
The statue is removable and is designed to sit on top of the base without the need to screw it down. There are two pins on the bottom of the statue that correspond to holes in the base, which keep it in place. This statue, Ansonia#1173, is one of several optional statues that could be purchased with this base. The finish was painted golda longtime ago and has some flaking paint in some area. The statue has a repair on her right wrist that was well done and is securely attached. She is missing a small floral bouquet from her right hand -I would not have noticed if I had not seen the rendering in Ly\'s book. Other than these few minor issues, she is in excellent condition and is one of the rarer statues to come across.
The metal portions of the clock base have the same old gold, painted finish as the statue so it appears they were painted at the same time. You can see remnants of the original finish in the areas where the paint has worn off over the years. There is no gold over-paint on the onyx, so it appears that the person who did the work took the clock apart first. The hinged back door is original and functions properly. The orig. sound board is present and excellent with no cracks or separations.
The original, signed, 4 1/4\" porcelain dial is in excellent condition. I found no hairlines at all. If there are any they are not visible to the naked eye. It has a fancy, solid brass rococo bezel. The original beveledglassis excellent. Both hands are also original and excellent.
The original8 day,timeand strikemovement is signed. The movement strikes ona heavy coiled gong.Themovement is in excellent condition,and has been keeping perfect time andis due for a routine cleaning service, as it is just out of long term storage*(see below).The original pendulum and a replacement key is included.
