This medal is a souvenir of the 1904 St. Louis World\'s Fair, the Louisiana Purchase Exposition, and it was produced to promote the International Nickel Company. One side features a large bust of Joseph Wharton, who developed malleable nickel and was a co-founder of the company. Along the rim of this side are the words MALLEABLE NICKEL FIRST PRODUCED IN 1865 BY JOSEPH WHARTON SC.D. L.L.D. The other side has the company name and the date 1904 in the center, with AMERICAN MALLEABLE NICKEL and ST. LOUIS EXPOSITION along the rim. Above the company name, the name of a lady was engraved in script font: Miss L. Kast. This item is composed of a nickel alloy, and itmeasures approximately 34 mm (1-5/16\") in diameter.
This item is in very good condition, with even wear on each side, signs of handling, some toning, and soiling, and it is fairly bright. The engraved name is quite clear.
