This listing reveals the influence of Ice Age glaciers on the landscape of western Crawford County, Pennsylvania - a 1906 Pymatuning Swamp map copy. The map joins two U. S. Geological Survey topographic maps - the 1905 Andover, Ohio, and the 1906 Linesville, PA, - which are photographically reproduced in part. The resulting map measures 17\" high x 11\" wide. The glaciers created the extensive Pymatuning Swamp, now partially covered by Pymatuning Lake. The map covers the entire area now occupied by Pymatuning Lake. The large extent of this wetland topographic feature shows the dramatic impact of Ice Age glaciers on landscape character. Past natural history is revealed by Hemlock Island, presently under the waters of Pymatuning Lake. Other areas of higher ground reveal the locations of other swamp islands. The now submerged course of the Shenango River through the swamp is also graphically shown. This map is in good condition and is printed on heavy gloss suitable for framing.
