RARE 1906 ANTIQUE DANISH INK WELL BY ROYAL COPENHAGEN\'S ALUMINIA FACTORY
FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION IS A 111-YEAR-OLD HAND PAINTED COLLECTIBLE ANTIQUE INKWELL.
IT IS COMPLETE WITH LID AND GLASS INK-HOLDING INSERT.
ALUMINIA ITEM NUMBER 474/453.THE UPPER NUMBER IS THE DECORATION NUMBER AND THE LOWER NUMBERTELLSTHE FORM AND THE YEAR MADE.NUMBER 453 WAS CREATED IN 1906!
THE MATERIAL USED IS CALLED FAIENCE OR FAJANCE IN DANISH
FAJANCE IS AN ESPECIALLY FINE VARIETY OF GLAZED EARTHENWARE OR POTTERY,
WITH HIGHLY COLORED DESIGNS.ALUMINIA WAS A DANISH FACTORY OF FAJANCE ESTABLISHED IN COPENHAGEN IN 1863.IN 1882, THE OWNERS OF ALUMINIA PURCHASED THE ROYAL COPENHAGEN PORCELAIN FACTORY.THE FACTORIES WERE OPERATED INDEPENDENTLY UNDER THEIR RESPECTIVE TRADE NAMES
UNTIL 1969,WHEN THE USE OF THE ALUMINIA NAME WAS ENDED.
AS YOU CAN SEE, THIS PIECE IS DECORATED WITH AN ART NOUVEAU STYLE OF BORDER
ON THE BOTTOM RIMAND RUNNING DEER WITH BRANCHES AND GREEN LEAVES IN THE MAIN SECTION.THE TOP BOARDER IS A LOVELY DEEP COBALT BLUE COLOR.THE LID CONTINUES THE BRANCH AND LEAVES DESIGN.
THE BASE MEASURES 5 INCHES IN DIAMETER (13 CM)THE TOP LIP OF THE INKWELL IS 2.5 INCHES IN DIAMETER (ALMOST 7 CM)AND IT MEASURES APX. 3.25 INCHES TALL (8.5 CM) TALL TO THE TOP OF THE GREEN BALL ON THE LID
On a private note: the glass ink-holding insert even has ink residue inside it,
left over from way back when! I love it!!!
