This bear is one owner, mint condition. It has been in storage for most of its life and ready to find a new home. If you have any questions I will do my best to answer them.

In 1902, Richard Steiff, a nephew of Margarete Steiff, Designed the first jointed bear which, under the name of \"Teddy Bear\", quickly developed as the central figure in the world of toys. As early as 1907 the Steiff Company in Giengen produced more than 974,000 teddy bears, apart from other toys. In order to keep up this trend new teddy bears varying in size, color, shape and outfit were offered during the years to follow.

On occasion of a teddy bear sale at Sotheby\'s in London in May 1987 a teddy bear couple from Steiff dating from that time reached a sensational record price of 13,500 euros.

In appreciation of this event the Steiff Company produces a replica of the smaller one of these bears in 1988/89:

As was the original this exceptional teddy bear is covered in a coat of the finest mohair plush and stuffed with excelsior; the nose and the claws are embroidered by hand with loving care and the riveted muzzle is made of genuine leather.
