C. 1912 - 1920 Peters & Reed, or Roseville? Moss Aztec Ivy Leaves 7\" x 5\" Bowl, SIGNED FERREL. 5\" high, rim is 7\", with a base diameter of 4 1/2\".Excellent condition, except for a 1 1/2\" x 3/8\" chip on the rim. Red clay pottery with green highlights, molded ivy leaves and berries. Incised signature F. Interior dark brown glaze.
Frank Ferrell, a prolific pottery designer, proposed a newPineconeline to Weller in 1905, but his idea was rejected. He joined Peters and Reed, Zanesville, Ohio in 1906, became president, and turned the company into a success. He adapted utilitarian flower pots into art pottery,creating the Moss Aztec line, a red clay pottery with green tints that had a rustic feel.In 1918 he became Art Director for Roseville, where he designed the popular Roseville Pinecone series in 1935.
