1918 WWI ERA PIANO SHEET MUSIC, SHINE ON HARVEST MOON, ZIEGFELD FOLLIES:
$24.00

1917 WWI Era Piano Sheet Music \"Hail Hail the Gang\'s All Here ... What the-Deuce-Do We Care. It was published in New York City, by Leo. Feist, Inc. The music is attributed to Sullivan and Morse. Sullivan actually wrote the music for the comic opera \"The Pirates of Penzance.\" The lyrics are attributed to Esrom, which is actually a pseudonym ... Morse spelled backward. SHE used both names, and arranged the music for publication. Confused yet? The lyric had unofficially been added to the melody many years before. And even now is is popular with Irish and Scottish Football (soccer) fans. It is in good condition, with torn corners, and tears on all of the edges. Also the \"previous owner\" made repairs with cellophane tape in places. The music was well played and well loved.

Original and nostalgic \"1918 WWI Era Piano Sheet Music, Shine on Harvest Moon, from Ziegfeld Follies.\"  Featuring Ruth Etting, Ziegfeld Star. Published in New York City, by Remick Music Corp. New York.

The sheet music measures approx. 12” X 9-1/4”. Offered here are all 4 pages - the front and back covers, 1 page of music ads, and 3 pages of music.   Please see the photos above to see each of the pages, which are shown in order.

So THIS particular historic printing of this song is 102 years old this year.  The song is credited to the married vaudeville team Nora Bayes and Jack Norworth. However during the vaudeville era, songs were often sold outright, and the purchaser would be credited as the songwriter. John Kenrick\'s Who\'s Who in Musicals credits the song\'s writers as Edward Madden and Gus Edwards. However, David Ewen\'s All the Years of American Popular Music credits Dave Stamper, who contributed songs to 21 editions of the Ziegfeld Follies and was Bayes\' pianist from 1903 to 1908.  And then Vaudeville comic Eddie Cantor also credited Stamper in his 1934 book Ziegfeld - The Great Glorifie The earliest commercially successful recordings were made in 1909 by Harry Macdonough and Elise Stevenson.

With all these people taking credit for writing and popularizing the song, it\'s no wonder that it became a pop standard, and continues to be performed and recorded in the 21st century.

You can hear it performed on YouTube by these performers and more: Shine On, Ruth Etting, Laurel and Hardy, Rosemary Clooney, and Tuba Skinny (in 2016)

This original \"1918 WWI Era Piano Sheet Music … \" is in good condition.   The corners are definitely torn and dog-eared, and there are some tears on all of the edges and along the spine. Plus there are several places along the edges were the \"previous owner\" made repairs with archival tape.    However while there might be some flaws and crinkling of the pages, they are all intact.  And despite the fact that this music was often played, the inside pages are clean and  well preserved.   (Please see all of the photos above, to confirm the condition of this sheet music.)

To conclude, I have to add that the \"previous owner\" of  this piano music was  my Grandmother, who lived from 1905 to 1991.  As a child, I used to listen to her play the piano.  Most of it was classical music, or music from the 1920\'s, 30\'s and 40\'s.  I came from a musical family and I have fond memories of hearing extended family members singing this song in harmony around a campfire, or on a long trip in the car.   I hope the winner of this sale will enjoy it too.Very fascinating and entertaining \"1918 WWI Era Piano Sheet Music, Shine on Harvest Moon, from Ziegfeld Follies,\"  would be a fantastic addition for any musician\'s 20th-Century Sheet Music collection.
