Some general information on Nelson McCoy Pottery:

During the 1920-1930\'s Nelson McCoy produced this Art Pottery design with embossed leaves and berries that collectors found very desirable.

In April, 1910, Nelson McCoy, Sr, with help from his father (J. W. McCoy) and along with five stockholders, established the Nelson McCoy Sanitary and Stoneware Company in Roseville, Ohio. The pottery produced utilitarian stoneware and operated successfully until about 1918. they also bought, sold, and mined clay.

By 1926 the newly formed conglomerate had liquidated. In 1929 in order to reestablish their former company, the once Nelson McCoy Sanitary and Stoneware Co. changed it\'s name to the Nelson McCoy Sanitary Stoneware Company.

From this time on, with the demand for Stoneware declining, McCoy began to establish itself by producing it\'s own unique wares. This was born the era of McCoy that not only includes the addition of the \"Mark\" of the pottery in 1933 but also begins McCoy\'s production of \"decorative\" pieces of \"Art Pottery.\"

The difference between decorative and art pottery is as different as night and day. However, as decorative as the pieces became, they still continued to serve utilitarian purposes, which is one of the reasons McCoy was successful early on.

All production was halted in 1991.

All pieces at this time can only be purchased on the secondary market.

There is a wealth of information on McCoy Pottery on the internet and at your local library.

This is a wonderful piece of pottery history that will complete your private collection or be a wonderful gift for the novice collector. Nothing is more endearing than when someone goes to the trouble to find the perfect piece for a friend and then adds flowers to make a perfect day.
