G. P. Putnam\'s Sons, New York and London. These 2 ornate volumes are the 1921 commemorative hardcover reprints of the 1920 and 1921 softcover wraps issued by State Street Trust in Boston which are hard to find in good condition. These hardcover volumes are the first hardback editions that did not combine the two volumes into one book, They have 225 pages ea., totalling 450 pp. Photographs, illustrations from prints and maps. Beautiful, heavy, cream stock pages to match the quality of the covers.

Subjects:
  • New England -- History.
  • Cities and towns -- New England, Great Britain, England, Ireland, Scotland, UK
  • Pilgrims (New Plymouth Colony) -- Addresses, commemorations, etc.
  • Genealogy -- Family Histories

These luxury editions have very finely detailed, ornate, gilt stamping on the front cover. The gilt stamping includes the book title, \"Mayflower 1620\" with the Mayflower ship below that, ornate & floral scrollwork, \"Dieu et mon droit\", \"Honi soit qui mal y pense\" around the Royal Coat of Arms, the names of each town featured, and the words \"Plimoth von Anglia sigillum societatis\" around the Seal of the Plymouth Colony. Measures approximately 10.5 x 7.5 x 1.5. Part I contains 225 pages of text illustrated with 179 photographs or etchings. Part II also contains 225 pages with 146 photographs or etchings. Photos full page & in text. Nice cream colored pages, despite my scanner adding pink. Together they weigh over 4 lbs because of the high quality, thick, cream stock paper that was used.

VERY GOOD CONDITION See the large photos below of the actual books you are offerding on. There is only light outer wear to the hardcovers. Gilt on spine may be a little dulled, as it is not as brilliant as the front covers. Front gilt thick and bright. Gilt top edges are in good shape and look better than in the photos. There is minor rubbing and edge wear at the spine ends and corners that includes a moderate amount of color loss. Two corners are soft on Part 1. No bumped corners or bumped pages. Bindings are tight. Spine roll is minimal. The front hinge and gutter is weak on Part 1, but with no hinge cracking. There are no previous owner marks. The free end pages and paste downs have very minor yellowing. The text pages show little yellowing, if any. The book interior photos below are stock. No musty smell and no foxing or other signs of moisture exposure. SEE PHOTOS. Right click on the photos below to view larger versions.

This is the romantic story of the early settlement of the New England towns beginning with the arrival of the Mayflower passengers from Plymouth, England, to found a community of the same name on this continent. The connecting links between the cities and towns of New England and those of similar name in Great Britain and their close relationship is traced in detail. New light based on information uncovered from old documents is thrown on the early history of these towns as well as on the experiences and adventures of the early settlers. Of more than common interest are the many illustrations gathered from town archives and old family collections, some of which are here published for the first time. This book is not only of great historical value, but also forms and instructive guide to shrines and memorable places of the territory under consideration.

I have listed many of the names and places that go with the cities listed in the Table of Contents below. The contents are followed by partial illustration lists for both volumes.
