Silvertone 4569

Unique Art Deco Style

Beautiful Bookend Matched Veneer Work!

Here we have one of the nicest table radios Silvertone ever produced. It is a recent estate find, plays across the dial andlooks so good I am having a hard time letting go of it. This gorgeous 1936 model 4569 Super-Heterodyne radio features a stunning cabinet, bright green tuning eye, large round gold dial, large 6\" diameter convex glass dial cover with brass trim ring, side mounted speaker, andvery niceperformance on the AMband. I was able to pick up a couple of stations on the shortwave band at night, but I was only using a short,6 foot piece of wire as an antenna. While many radios sold on claim to have an \"Art Deco\" style, this model truly does! This Art Deco radiowas madefor Sears by The Colonial Radio Company of Buffalo, New York. It was sold under the house brand name of Silvertone as part of the \"Sears Golden Julbilee\" which offered a series of Silvertone radios with different sized gold dials andstyles.

The largest and most impressive Silvertone gold dial of this series is the one you see and was used in the higher tube count 1936 and 1937 Silvertone model radios. This is one of those special radios.

Cabinet: The walnut cabinet is spectacular. Stunning wood grain runs throughout the entire set with a contrasting diagonal wood grain pattern which runs from the top down the front center. An elegant waterfall design steps down on each side with the left housing the side mounted speaker. The set is finished off beautifully withmedium walnut trim and a bright green tuning eye. What a terrific sight when lit, especially in the dark! This beautiful radio is sure to be the highlight of any room in the home or office you choose to display it in.

The Cabinet’s Finish: This cabinet, as you can see from the detailed pictures, is in gorgeous condition. Please note that this finish is not one of those high gloss, over finished types that are often restored and sold on . This is a very nice rich finish that is typical of the original finish you find on high-quality radios from this era. Please use the pictures included to determine the quality of the cabinet. I am sure you will agree it looks beautiful.

Dial/Knobs: The large gold dial is quite an eye catcher with station frequencies indicated in a raised shiny gold, and foreign cities listed around the outside of the dial, for shortwave. There is also a band for police and \"amateur aviation\" on the dial, but as many people know these low frequencies are no longer used.At the topofthe dial is the bright green tuning eye which opens and closes indicating signal strength and is mounted in a beautiful brass escutcheon. The brass escutcheon is in great shape and the dial glass is perfect with no chips orcracks. The glass bezel is 6\" in diameter, is convex and extends out 3/4\" from the front of the the radio!I did not attempt to clean or polish the brass bezel retaining ring. Please note that this model also was later sold a bakelite bezel ring, apparently in an attempt to save money in the manufacturing process. This model has the brass ring. All four bakelite knobs are in excellent condition and work as they should; on/off volume, band switch, tuning, and tone. The knobs even have replacement felt protectors behind them as included when new.The tuning knob turns smoothly and easily across the entire dial.

Electronics/Chassis: The7 tube chassis has been restored by a noted Michigan vintage radio restorer. His restoration/repair tag is still on the back of the unit and is visible in the pictures. All tubesand capacitors werechecked and replaced as needed.A new power cord was installed and the chassiscleaned, lubed and re-aligned for the bestperformance. The green tuning eye glows bright and green. In the Chicago area, I am able to pick up well over a dozen stationsand the tuning \"eye\"works as designed. I added a small piece of wire to the antenna screw, (not included) to optimally get reception, but it picks up stations without the antenna. The speaker appears to beoriginaland has no holes or cracks. It provides a deep loud sound, no doubt due to theoversized coils used. The sound tone can be controlled and changed using the tone switch for a more treble/bass sound.

This radio is 12 1/2\" high, 15\" wide and 9\" deep. It is heavy and weighs21 pounds! A schematic will be included with the purchase. In the past two years, working examples of this radio with nice cases have sold for $795 and $910. A non-working unit of this model recently sold for approximately $250 on and was missing veneer and the case was in poor shape. Get this working model in beautiful condition for avery attractive price.

I will carefully package and ship this radio in the Continental US for $45.00 via FedEx Ground.Ifirst surround my radios in packing paper and then wrap it in multiple layers of bubble wrap. Ialso loosely pack some packingpaper around the tubes to make sure they stay in place during shipment. I am careful to keep the paper away from the speaker cone. I then take the unit to FEDEX where it issurrounded by packing peanuts and then double boxed with more packing peanuts! I recently sold a radio of this exact same size and weight it and cost me $75.00 to ship and package.....so I know I will lose money shipping this item. If you have any questions or need additional information please let me know. Check my response and buy with confidence! Please note that I do frequently travel so there may be a day ortwo delay before shipping. Please ask me beforebuying if this is a concern and I will let you know when it will ship. You will see from my response, however, that I am a very quick shipper. if you have any questions about the care I provide when shipping, check out the response on the Silvertone 4763 I just sold. The 4763 was the 6 tube 1937 version of this radio.
