Description

Up for sale is a very nice Eversharp Skyline fountain pen with an Army Brown barrel, section, cap and derby. I really like Skyline fountain pens. A very unique design and well made. The pen was introduced in 1941 by Wahl-Eversharp. Strikingly modern in appearance, the Skyline (originally called the Skyliner) was designed by Henry Dreyfuss, who also streamlined the steam locomotives of the New York Central Railroad’s famed 20th Century Limited. You do not need a very sharp eye to detect a strong resemblance between the locomotive and the Skylines!

I took the pen apart and cleaned everything ultrasonically. I even removed the nib and the feed from the section. I installed a new ink sac for maximum fill. Over-all length capped is just shy of 5 1/4 inches, and about 5 7/8 inches with the cap posted, so this is a Standard size Skyline.

The barrel, cap, derby and section have the usual minor micro wear scratches, but no gouges, cracks or bite marks. There is one small scrape blemish on the cap. The over-the-top clip is brass free as is the cap band. The filling lever shows just a hint of brassing at the high point on the edges. There is almost always some brassing on the filling lever caused by the cap rubbing on it every time it is posted, a slight design flaw.

On the upper cap ring there is an imprint: \'EVERSHARP SKYLINE PAT. MADE IN U.S.A.\' Also, if you look at the clip where it intersects the upper cap ring, you\'ll notice two \'Check Marks\'. This was Eversharp\'s indication of a Lifetime Warranty, like Sheaffer\'s White Dot, or Parker\'s Blue Diamond on the clip.

The 14K Solid Gold \'EF\' nib looks excellent. With a 10X loupe I can see a bit of tine separation, but the tines are tight at the tip and tine alignment is spot-on. Eversharp had a reputation for making excellent nibs of varying line widths and flex and this is one of them. This nib is extremely clean, a very smooth writer. I\'d judge it to be about an \'EF\' leaning a bit towards a \'F\' point and quite stiff.

This is a superb example of a vintage Eversharp Skyline Fountain Pen from the 1940\'s. It is extremely clean and just hasn\'t seen much use at all. This Skyline would make a great daily writer or a nice front row addition to your Skyline collection. This Skyline is in excellent condition for a fountain pen about 70 years old!
