1940’s LARGE NEON “NEON” RARE SIGN COMPANY SIGN - VINTAGE ANTIQUE MUSEUM SAMPLE:
$25000.00

We are selling a giant1940’s, one of a kind and one of the best vintage signs we have ever had. This is a very large vintage antique ex-neon sign that once graced CampbellNeon in Seattle WA. It is the largest “Neon” neon sign in the country. It is equivalentto the great signs that can be seen at the neon boneyard museum in Las Vegas,NV. Even they don’t have an original sign that says neon that once graced aneon sign company’s building.

History Of The Sign:

This “NEON” sign is from theoriginal Campbell Neon Company building located in Downtown Seattle, WA. TheCampbell Neon Company started in the early 1930’s and lasting through the1970’s. The sign dates from the 1940’s to the 1950’s. Its history is kind ofvague at that point in time. The company moved between two locations duringthat time. But, between 1950 and 1971 the sign graced the company’sheadquarters’ building that was located across the street from where theSeattle Space Needle now stands. The company was closed in the mid 1970’s and thesign was removed from the building. After the mid 1970’s, the sign became afixture on a side street in the Ballard neighborhood, a suburb of Seattle. Forthe last 30 year it has been admired by the locales, photographed thousands oftimes (just search Google “Ballard Neon Sign” for lots of photos of it), usedas a backdrop for photo fashion shoots and generally created curiosity of whyit was there. A number of years ago, when the property was sold, we purchasedthe sign for our museum project.

About The Campbell Neon Company:

The Campbell Neon Companywas one of the first and largest neon companies in Seattle, stating in theearly 1930’s and lasting through the 1970’s. The Campbell Neon Company was wellknown in Seattle for some great large signs that are still standing. They areresponsible for some of Seattle’s greatest neon signs. The most notable signsare the “ADD BARDAHI OIL” and the “SEATTLE LIGHT” signs.

About The Sign:

The sign was bought to beused at our future neon museum location in Seattle, WA, but after evaluatingspace, building and budgeting needs to house this very large sign, we havedecided to put it up for sale so we can focus on the museum’s main missions.

The museum will be apermanent public display dedicated to preserving, educating, and continuationthe legacy of neon glass art. The exhibits will show how neon was and iscurrently used use in advertising, industry, design and other forgottenhistorical use, along with teaching the art of glass blowing.

Note: Even thou thissaleis going to a good cause, this is a commercialsale and the purchase is not tax deductible.

We have kept the sign’shistoric patina, but replacing close to 400 feet of neon glass could bring thissign back to its original glory. If you would be interested in having usrestore this sign to your specs, we would be happy to give you a price. Emailus for more info.

Sign Description:

This is a true 1940’svintage all metal three dimensional single-sided wall mount neon can sign. Itwas made in between 1940 and 1950 and still has the original neon hardware fromthe period. This is a \"wall mount\" style neon sign. The letters aremounted to two long steel “L” bars and those bars are mounted to the wall ofthe building. This is a great elaborate and stunning hand painted, notporcelain sign with a very unique look to it.

The sign was made out ofgalvanized metal which is why the sign is in such good condition and has verylittle rust on it and is in good condition.

The sign can be wall mountedor can be freestanding on the floor or on some kind of base. The sign is madeout of galvanized metal, and it has a great patina to it, but not very rusty. Each side of this sign is in good vintage condition. This is a great Mid-Century elaborate andstunning art deco Eames Era sign with lots of real great patinacharacteristics. This sign is very nice, but it does have a few scratches anddings on the sign, but these things make this is a great noir masterpiece!

The sign looks great the wayit is without neon or it would also look great if the neon was put back on it.The sign does not have any neon on it. The sign used to have neon for all theletters on the sign. It had about four bars of neon in each letter and about400 feet of neon on this sign. The sign is all original. All neon hardware matches and is originalwith the 1940’s time period. I also have all the glass stands / neon tubesupports for the entire sign. I took them off so it would be easier totransport.

This Great Vintage Sign:

The sign has a great cleanmodern industrial look. This hand painted sign is a very rare sign design; veryfew of this style sign where made, due to the extremely high cost back in theday. I have only seen a few of these inthe last 20 years, and the ones sold commend a very high price. It has a greatshape and style to it. I believe this is one of the rarest styles of signsmade. This is a great sign with real great patina characteristics to it.

This is a true 1940’svintage sign with all original hardware. This is the real deal. It has looksfrom the 1920\'s, 1930\'s 1940\'s and 1950\'s and has that old antique theatremarquee look. If the neon was added it back to it, the sign would have a warmglow and create a wonderful colorful light.

The sign looks great for itsage and is basically is in good condition. This sign was made in a time whenthings where well. It was made of the highest quality components at the time. The sign has a solid all metal frame and has a metal outside skin. These signsare designed to run 24 hours a day. The sign has not been restored and hasgreat patina characteristics to it that makes this a great vintage art piece. The sign is currently designed to mount to a wall, sit on the floor, on a baseor could hang from the ceiling. If mounted to additional hardware the signcould be hung or used in any direction and even part of a larger sign.

This is a great vintage signto add to any Eames Era Mid-Century Art Deco interior design. This is a LasVegas style outside sign. These signs were used at parking lots, car lots, drive inns, movie theaters, motels, hotels, diners, restaurants, gas stationsand other roadside businesses across America. This sign can be used in anybusiness, office, loft, home or studio. This would be a fantastic addition toany home decor, loft, retail store, gas station, garage, studio, game room, mancave, restaurant, retail store, bar tavern, pup or neon porcelain signcollection.

This is a rare opportunityto own a very rare neon sign that can actually be used for a business, used asa display piece or as a modern interior design element to any interior designproject. This sign would be a great acquisition and an addition to any neoncollection and would be a killer piece to any exhibit with neon clocks, automotive signs or any specialized displays of sign-related items.
