1943 MARTIN 000-21 71 YR OLD BRAZILIAN ROSEWOOD EXCELLENT:
$15600.00

1943 000-21 VERY RARE WARTIME 000-21 SN 85078 IN PHENOMENAL CONDITION FOR A 71 YEAR OLD GUITAR. This guitar is unique in that it is damage free, has only one very small invisible closed crack on the back. These guitars are considered the best of the Martin small body guitars.
The back is a very special striking piece of book matched Brazilian Rosewood (see photos below). It almost appears to be a three piece back with the phenomenal color and grain patterns. I have yet to see any Martin with such a unique back. The sides are also tight grain rosewood and the top is a beautiful clear adirondack spruce with scalloped bracing. The guitar was purchased from the original ownerthis year. The original documents include the owner\'s manual with serial no. entered anddocumentation of the 1981 installation of a truss rod installation by Don Teeter of Oklahoma City\'s Don\'s Guitar Shop. He was renowned for this modification of early Martins and authored several books on vintage guitars. His modification insures preservation of the neck straightness and relief adjustability. This modification is only apparent visually by the adjustment nut below the neck block thru the sound hole. The original owner has said that the finish is original, but he is quite elderly and I believe that the guitar was refinished at some point, as it is in such good condition now. Perhaps it was done when the truss rod mod was done. The tuners have been changed out for later Grover sealed tuners that work very smoothly and maintain tune easier. They use the same original bolt pattern. Since purchasing the guitar I have had it thoroughly inspected. One very small, almost invisible crack on the back was repaired, which is now very stable and invisible. In addition the bridge (period correct and believed to be the original one) was restored. The nut and bridge bones were replaced and acomplete set up was also performed. Action is set at medium low and intonation is spot on. The guitar comes with the original \"alligator\" case, which is in remarkably good condition.
The guitar plays very well and the sound is very balanced with excellent lows and bright airy highs that are extremely articulate yet smooth. This aged Brazilian rosewood creates a sustain like no other and the sound never gets stressed, no matter how hard you play it.
I have owned many fine guitars in my days, but this one is as good as it gets for this style. I would not sell it, but I am retiring and really can\'t afford to keep it long term.
