Thisis anice NFL item- an EXTREMELY RARE1944press photo ofDetroit Lions halfbackRussell Jack (Jackie) Lowther -who played for theUniversity of Detroit Titans before joining the Lions in the NFL!!!

A list of NFL players from the University of joined the Lions in 1944 and played one season in Detroit before ending his brief NFL career with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1946.Lowther died a tragic death on Sept. 29, 1952- in a small-craft plane crash at Triangle Airport near Livonia, MI at age 29.

His career photo is in excellent condition, with hand-written and typednotationsand a Jan. 4 1946 library date stamp.

I purchased this photo from Historic Images on a half-decade ago - they bought the entire photo archives of both the Detroit Free Press and Detroit News back in the late 2000\'s.
