Description

1945 Parker Vacumatic Blue Diamond; Black; 14K Solid Gold \'F\' Nib; Restored!

This Black Vacumatic has been fully restored - a new vac sac/diaphragm (and tested), and thoroughly cleaned and polished - I even removed the feed and nib from the section and cleaned all three. The components on this pen are Vintage. The filling unit works nice and smoothly. The barrel imprint is nice and crisp - very easy to read - \'5.\' so 3rd gtr. of 1945. Parker stopped making this model of Vacumatic in 1948 in the US.

This \'45\' Vac has a beautiful and proper Parker Arrow 14K Solid Gold nib, with a \'5.\' date code, so 3rd qtr. of 1945, same date code as the barrel. The imprint on the nib says \'Parker USA \'5.\'. I\'d judge the nib to be a \'F\' point and quite stiff. This nib just glides over the paper - very smooth for a \'F\' nib. With the naked eye, this nib looks excellent. Parker nibs are very high quality and this one is no exception.

The trim is gold-filled, and I don\'t see any evidence of brassing at all. The single Art Deco cap band looks great and is nice and tight on the cap. There is a monogram panel on the cap band but it hasn\'t been used. The Parker Blue Diamond clip looks excellent and is tight on the cap as well. The split arrow clip design was introduced by Parker in 1937. The Blue Diamond was added in 1938 indicating a Lifetime Warranty.

The cap jewel looks great - no chips or visible blemishes. The Ink Vue barrel has been thoroughly cleaned and has very nice transparency. I see a small nick on the barrel and several very small teeth marks on the blind cap. The barrel cap looks excellent! The black Vacs tend to show every single little scracth, but this one actually looks really clean - just the usual light wear scratches from being knocked around for about 70 years.

Parker made the Vacumatic in many sizes, both length and girth - typically the most common were the Debutante (smallest), Standard, Major, and Over-sized (later changed to the Maxima). This one is the Standard size, and measures about 5 inches capped, and about 6 inches with the cap posted.

I\'ve included a writing sample using this pen. I\'m a bit heavy handed. I tested the pen with water to assure it filled properly and then dipped the pen to create the writing sample. It lays down a true \'F\' line and is quite stiff but very smooth.

BTW, if you are relatively new to the Parker Vacumatic filling system (used in Parker 51\'s, Vacumatics, later model Duofolds, etc.) for maximum fill, depress the filling plunger about 8 - 10 times, with just a brief pause between plunges. This will assure a maximum fill. You could darn near write a short novel with a maximum filled Vac!

If you are looking for a daily \'F\' writer, or a nice Parker Vac to add to your collection, then this is a very good one for you to consider.
