1946 Silvertone 714 Archtop Acoustic Guitar Made by Gretsch!

Up for sale is a 1946 Silvertone Archtop Acoustic Guitar made for Sears & Roebuck by Gretsch. This was the only instance of Gretsch building Silvertones. It has \"Gretsch Super Structure\" and a serial number \"1568\" stamped on the back side of the Bass F hole.13th Edition of the Blue Book of Acoustic Guitars states that Gretsch guitar serialization places this guitar as being built between 1946-1949 (serial numbers 1001-2000). It has the Gretsch asymmetrical neck design, original Gretsch tuners, solid spruce top and maple back & sides, rosewood fingerboard. Most of the finish is fine. See all pictures for details.

This guitar to my knowledge has the following new parts: Gretsch nickel tailpiece, Gretsch synchromatic bridge, Gretsch replacement pick guard. It has a recent set of Ernie Ball Earthood XL Acoustic strings (0.010-0.050). The original parts, such as they are, are also included in the sale. Please refer to picture. The 714 was a beautiful guitar, with a famously unexpected pedigree. It was built by Gretsch! That\'s right, one of the greatest guitar makers ever actually built a Silvertone model for Sears! Based on the 1940s Synchromatic 100 model, the Silvertone 714 was identical to its famous-name counterpart except for the legend on the headstock, and even that shared the inlaid fancy script of the \'Synchromatic\' model.

Only confirmed listing:
Fall/Winter 1946 as the 57G0714 at Needs three lower fret markers replaced. I have included several of the original markers removed with other parts to give an idea of dimensions and design.

- This guitar had the \"Gretsch melting pick guard syndrome\" common to many 40-50s Gretsch. The pick guard has been replaced. The finish on the top near the pick guard requires additional refinishing. See pictures.

- This archtop, like many other 40-50s Gretsch guitars, also suffers from \"Gretsch crumbling binding syndrome\", All binding on body front and back, and neck needs to be replaced.

- There is also some additional small finish chips and light scratching here and there on the guitar. Normal amount for its vintage.

I put on the replacement parts to see what the Silvertone 714 would sound like. It has good volume and a very nice tone. I cannot vouch for its playability other that the neck is good and the action is fine. This was tested with the 3 fret markers out and 3 holesin the fingerboard, making for slightly awkward guitar will be shipped via USPS Parcel Select, the most economical means to ship.
