Description

This Parker Blue Diamond \"51\" Vacumatic filler has been torn down, cleaned and a new diaphragm was installed. It is dated the 1st quarter of 1947 (a \'7\' with three dots around it). This is a full size \"51\" and measures about 5 1/2\" capped (about 13.7cm), and right at 5 7/8 inches with the cap posted (15 cm).  The cap is Parker\'s Lustraloy cap - Stainless Steel. The barrel has a single tone clutch ring and the cap fits snuggly as it should.  The nib is 14K and I judge it to be a Fine point, stiff and a smooth writer.

The hood, barrel, and blind cap look identical in color - I can\'t see any color variation at all.  The imprint on the barrel is crisp and easily readable - \'PARKER \"51\" MADE IN U.S.A. 7\' with three dots around it. There is also a name imprint on the barrel - \'HARVEY H. WELLS\'. The hood and barrel look really nice - crack, gouge and bite mark free. The Lustraloy cap looks equally as nice, no dents or bad scratches at all. The cap jewel looks superb. So, just the usual tiny scratches from years of use.

The Blue Diamond clip looks great and is nice and tight on the cap. The paint has mostly worn off of the Blue Diamond. Parker eliminated the Blue Diamond clip in 1947 because of a ruling by the Federal Trade Commission against Lifetime warranties - not reasonable. At first, Parker decided to stop painting the Diamond Blue but that was confusing to their customers, so Parker introduced a new clip patterned closely after the original Feather clip that was used on earlier designs. I have Blue Diamond paint, so if you win the sale and want the Diamond repainted, just let me know.

The pen has been fully restored including a new diaphragm for the Vacumatic filling system. This \"51\" is ready to write or go into a collection - a very nice example of a Vacumatic \"51\". The Blue Diamond clip looks excellent and is nice and tight on the cap. This may be one of the last \"51\"s with the Blue Diamond clip, because of the 1947 FTC (Federal Trade Commission) ruling. The barrel and hood color can look like a dark wine color in some of the pictures - even black, but I assure you, this pen is Cordovan Brown end to end! It isn\'t Burgundy but it isn\'t Brown either. Cordovan Brown is quite an appropriate name for this color.
