It is titled \"Bourne Air\" Riding Club, house, Cote St. Luc. Montreal. Oct. 2/48.

Some damage to this painting, a small amount of warping in the top left corner, only noticeable in the back of the canvas. Still an amazing piece. See all photos for further details. Canvas size is 8X10 , in frame it is 11X13. I have other paintings from this artist available as well.

PAYNE, Reginald A.

b. 1915

The son of an architect, he was influenced by his father\'s drawings which kindled his interest in painting. After attending schools in Montreal he was employed by his father\'s contracting business but he left this work to become a full-time painter. Largely self-taught he received guidance from Joseph Guinta, a neighbouring artist in Montreal and has been influenced to some extent by the work of Tom Thomson and the Group of Seven. Working mostly with brush and oil paints and sometimes palette-knife (has also worked in water colours) he sketches his subjects on the spot and later completes a finished painting in his studio. Occasionally he will photograph a scene, but prefers to work from his sketches. His subjects include scenes of the Eastern Townships, Quebec, and Cape Breton Island. He settled in Port Hawkesbury, N.S., with his wife and four children. His solo shows include those at United Church, Knowlton, P.Q. (1963, 1964); Anglican Church Hall, Port Hawkesbury, Cape Breton, N.S. (1969, 1970, 1971); Shelling Motel, Port Hawkesbury, Cape B., N.S. (1972) and at his home and studio in Port Hawkesbury (1973).
