1948 Schwinn B.F. Goodrich Challenger Bicycle Skiptooth Crankset:

This sale is for a 1948 BF Goodrich Challenger bicycle that was manufactured by Schwinn on September 10, 1948; serial number on bottom bracket is E34146. The current owner (San Jose, California) has had the bicycle sitting covered in his bedroom since it was purchased in 1990. The previous owner (Mountain View, California) was also a collector who had the bicycle in his living room. There is not a lot of evidence that the bicycle was used very much. The original 1948 San Francisco bicycle license plate is still in place. The horn and headlight both work. There were no batteries in these componenys and no battery acid damage; parts appear almost as new. The rear hub is a New Departure Model D laced with 36 spokes in a 4-cross pattern. The front hub is a Schwinn hub also laced 4-cross with 36 spokes. The paint is in very good condition for its age. The chrome is generally also in very good condition; there is some pitting on the underneath of the stem and handlebars. The seat post has the most pitting of any of the components. The tires are BF Goodrich Silver Tow II. The saddle is a Mesinger and has no tears or rips. The chainring and rear sprocket are of the skiptooth style. The bicycle will need to have the bearings cleaned and lubricated. The original wiring diagram for the headlight was inside the headlight and will also be included.
