Vintage 1950 US Department of Defense Poster \"Raid on Ploesti\" Featuring B24 Bombers
This is an incredible poster that is one of a series that was put out by the US War Office in the 1950\'s.There is a small tear on the right edge. The image itself is in mint condition.
The total poster size is 24\"X21\". The image in the center is 14\" x 19.75\".
The image depicts the May 31, 1944 air raid over the Nazi refineries in Ploesti Romania. During the war bombers made 25 attacks on the oil refineries here at Ploesti.
On this particular raid, 481 planes dropped more than 1,000 tons of bombs. There were 16 bombers that did not return from this raid.
There are some details at the bottom of the poster. It says Armed Forces Information Poster DA 21-34, Nav Pers 170, 162; DAF 21-34. The price in 1953 was 20 cents.
The value of this poster is two-fold. It is a collectible of a unique US DoD publication. But also, it is a great framable print for any WWII or B24 Bomber enthusiast. So if you are a US military enthusiast, this is a great find. This would make a great, unique gift for any war enthusiast.
