In the 1950s, bedside clocks came in many shapes, sizes, and price ranges. At the high end were fancy German and French models. Mid-price was dominated by Westclox, and the budget models were made by Ingraham, Lux, and Gilbert. This 1950s Gilbert alarm is plain, simple, rugged, and reliable, like the customers who bought it; but it was not boring - with a snappy turquoise finish and chrome bezel.
Acquired as a non-running yard sale item, Uncle Lem\'s Clock Shop has brought this humble Gilbert back to life. You won\'t see another Gilbert that\'s been so lovingly restored on or anywhere else. The movement has been ultrasonically cleaned and lubed with premium clock oil. It winds smoothly and runs an honest 35 hours before needing a rewind.* The alarm works just as designed.
Cosmetically, the case has been refinished in a shade of turquoise that matches the factory color. The original plastic winders had long since cracked and broken away, and were replaced with similar - but much sturdier - vintage metal winding keys.
