One of the 20th Century\'s Most ICONIC images and THE definitive image of World War II. Offered is a Vintage 1950\'s photograph of Joe Rosenthal\'s masterpiece, \"Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima\". This example is a later generation example that was made in 1953 for a look back at the event and was used in newsprint publication at the time. Reverse has a caption snippet, a newspaper clipping and several date stamps, the earliest that reads OCT 16 1953.
Captured by Rosenthal while on assignment for the Associated Press on February 23, 1945, it shows five United States Marines and a U.S. Navy corpsman raising the American Flag atop Mount Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima. The image became the only photograph to win the Pulitzer Prize for Photography in the same year as its publication. A TYPE I vintage 1945 example from the A.P. is rare, and by our estimation, would easily fetch $5,000 - $10,000 in today\'s market. This later-generation example is an accessible representation and a far more affordable alternate. And it\'s still a vintage example over 40 plus years old in age as opposed to a cheap modern repro.
