RARE Piece of VINTAGE Playboy History

This metal wall sign was hanging inside the originalDetroit Playboy Club in the 1960’s @

E.Jefferson Ave., Detroit, MI.

It was purchased at sale (1977) and kept(one owner) as the Detroit club went out of business (August 1977)…My familyhas had this in our possession ever since.

This appears to be made of cast iron (heavy)and is in great shape for being 50 years old.

It measures 28.25” (height) x 30.25” (width) x 3/4”(thickness) and weighs approx. 25 lbs.

I believe that there are only a handful ofthese collectables in existence. I can’timage there are many more in circulation.The new clubs now have neon signs, and these are a true vintage piece ofAmerican history.

ThePlayboyClubinitially was a chain ofnightclubs and resorts owned and operated byPlayboy Enterprises. The first club opened at 116 E. Walton Streetin downtownChicago,Illinois,United States, on February 29, 1960. Each club generally featured a Living Room, aPlaymate Bar, a Dining Room, and a Club Room. Members and their guests wereserved food and drinks byPlayboy Bunnies, some of whom were featured inPlayboymagazine.The clubs offered name entertainers and comedians in the Club Rooms, and localmusicians and the occasionalclose-up magicianin the Living Rooms. Starting with the Londonand Jamaica club locations, the Playboy Club became international in scope. In1991, the club chain became defunct. In 2006, a few new clubs were re-launched,and as of 2012, there are operating clubs in Macao and Cancun. The Las Vegasclub closed on June 4, 2012.In April 2014 it was announced thatCommerce Casino, in Los Angeles, California, will be opening aPlayboy Lounge consisting of gaming tables and Playboy Bunny cocktailwaitresses.
