1963 John Fowles Signed 1st Edition The Collector 1st Novel Jonathan Cape Dark For Sale
1963, John Fowles, The Collector, Signed & Inscribed First Edition, Stark, Powerful
John. The Collector. London: Jonathan
Cape, 1963. Octavo, gilt stamped cloth with DJ, 283 pages. First Edition.
Inscribed and Signed by Fowles.
John Robert Fowles (1926-2005) was a
well-regarded English novelist. Influenced by Sartre and Camus, Fowles
bridged the gap of modernism and postmodernism with an existentialist atheism marked
by integrity and intelligence. Considered by many to be among the leading
thinkers of the 20th century, Fowles began his literary career with
this somewhat disturbing 1963 First Edition now offered for your consideration:
further interest is the inscription and signature from Fowles on the title page
which reads: “Allen McGuire, To a collector – of more innocent things! John
Fowles, Lyme, 2 July 1985”
Condition notes: Very good.
This octavo, measuring 7 ¾ inches by 5 inches, is bound in gilt blocked cloth
complete with the dust jacket; this is price-clipped. Light foxing to fore edge
(please see photo), the overall tenor of this First Edition of the First Novel
by John Fowles, Inscribed and Signed by him, is very good.
