Fabulous Art Glass Vase by Charles Lotton, artist signed and dated 1973. An early vase for Charles Lotton. Already more than 40 years old. Today this continues to be stunning and due to its many merits and relatively large size it is a highly desirable object to add to a collection.
It is an example of modern American Art Glass at its best.
The color is red and the pulled design is black. The colors have luster or iridescence to them. This design/color combination is \"Mandarin\".
Excellent condition - no damage, no repairs. It is a cabinet piece; has likely never been used for flowers. It is clean (perhaps dusty) and fabulous just like the day it was made.
The vase is far from uniform in the red background color; there are swirly stretch \"marks\" - the color varies in different nuances of red to almost purple in places near the black swirly star bursts. There are 4 such black swirly star bursts in \"panels\" all around the vase. In other words, the beauty of the vase can be enjoyed from any angle or side. There is no front or back.
In addition to having a Chinese name, Mandarin, the form is also a classic Chinese egg shape.
The glass is opague, not muh light traverses through it. Rather, it reflects light with its slightly iridized surface, with it\'s Aurene quality. The red color is elusive, it\'s Royal. There is a tonality to the hue, changing from dark at the base to lighter toward the top, ending in a lovely peachy almost orange at the lovely lip of the vase.
I have a hard time letting go of this vase. It has been in my collection for 10-15 years. The satiny feel of it when you hold it in your hands is almost better than the look of it. When you buy it, you will get it all.
I will be very careful when wrapping and boxing the vase for shipment. It would be a devastating loss if it were to be damaged.
