Thisset is an interesting andhistorically significant commemorative set by The Card Memorabilia Associates, Limited (TCMA). Commemorating manyof the greatest baseball players of the 1950\'s, \'60s and a bit later -it was printed innatural color and in slightlyenlarged (3-13/16\" by 5-3/4\")postcard size. (The last scan displays a standard size card alongside these larger cards.)
The set is commonly referred to by collectors as: Great Players of the 1950\'s and \'60s, Series 2.
Seldom Offered
Another interesting fact about this set: it\'s fairly tough to complete! A check of at time of listing revealed that no complete set of all 33 cards has been offered either currently orin the past several weeks!Some of the 33 cards are available individually but others are surprisingly difficult to find. In general, the first 17 cards seem much easier to find than most of the next 15. For some (unknown) reason, cards #23-24-25 and#33 seem readily available. So, to recap: #1-17, 23-25and #33 are pretty common but #18-22 and #26-32 are quite difficult to find.
The card\'s front features the popular \"pure card\" style (with no extraneous design) except for player name at the bottom, while the back includes a headshot of the player - quite an innovation more than three decades ago. An extensive player biography and single line of lifetime player statistics complete an outstanding design which, if had been developed by the Exhibit Supply Company in its hey day might have made exhibits the baseball card of choice.
Thisset is what collectors frequently call a second series of TCMA\'s Great Players of the 1950\'s & 60\'s. The first series (consisting of 20 cards) was issued by TCMA in 1982 and isregularly offered both as singles and sets on .
IMPORTANT NOTE: Our scanner is giving us fits. Some of the cards show yellow streaks. In fact, there is no streaking on the cards - it is my faulty scanner!
