19TH c FRENCH WOOL SILK NEEDLEPOINT TAPESTRY PILLOW- PICTORIAL

This is a charming 19th century French hand stitched wool and silk petitpoint tapestry turned into a wonderful one of a kind 21st century pillow. First off, the needlepoint (acutally it’s petitpoint) is in excellent condition. No missing stitches, holes or funky smells. This was originally framed so there is literally no wear and tear just a nice faded patina. The tapestry itself measures 12” x 15”. The colors are; blue, orange, black, red, green, and more on a cream background with a black, brown and orange border. I just love the scene of a woman placing a floral headdress on the maidens head whille the child looks on. You can see the elegant background in the distance.

I used an antique dark metallic vestment trim around the petitpoint. On the front of the pillow I used an antique tangerine silk velvet while on the back I used a blue cotton velvet. The pillow is finished off with two different trims. The first is a 3” blue bullion fringe and on top of the fringe there is an antique blue, orange and brown pom-pom or pop corn trim. This brought in most of the colors in the petitpoint and gave it some umph and opulance.

This unique pillow measures approx. 18” x 21”. There is a hidden zipper for your convenience and a feather and down insert for a plush look and feel. The entire pillow is lined for extra durability. It is in excellent newly created condition combining the old (antique petitpoint, tangerine velvet, metallic trim and pom pom trim) with the new (all the other elements (blue velvet, blue bullion fringe and insert).

This rare needlepoint would make a joyful addition to any Environment. The colors are cheerful and the subject matter truly delightful.
