Russian Orthodox Icon "Madonna of Tichvin". Russia, icon painted in 19th century. Cypress wood, tempera, hand painted on a leaf of gold. Size 36,5 cm x 21,5 cm (10.2" x 8.4" x 0.7").
This image "Madonna of Tichvin" is filled with a particular warmness. A gamut of soft colour combinations, smartness of dressing, and Her open-hearted look make the image cordially close and intimate. Here individuality, as a temporal and limited category, changes over to a spiritual one.
