19th C.East Konya (Malatya)Kilim –Central Anatolian Region, Turkey
This is simply a wonderful antique Anatolian kilim flat weave which was most likely weaved by Kurdish Turk groups. One of the interesting things about this particular kilim is that it contains many dominate areas of cotton weaved into the weft...which helps confirm age. Cotton weaving has long died out.
All natural vegetable and root colors... Cochineal, apricot, yellows, etc. a wonderful work with cotton and \"silver thread\" accent weaving.
Antique Anatolian flat weaves had a broad use, and examples such as this weretypically weaved as largesized cultural textiles used for camel carvan covers, and tent seating and flooring covering. Such antique Anatolian kilims have indeed become rare, and good investment pieces are becoming quite expensive.
Flat weaves like thishavetrulyvanished - replaced by cheap, chemical-dyed machine made versions.
