This item is a very interesting oil on canvas of a river scene. It is signed in the lower left W. Wendt. I do not believe it is by the hand of the very famous California artist, William Wendt, but might be by someone who was a student or follower of him. The river in the scene might be the Santa Ana River. The canvas is affixed to a European stretcher. The canvas looks to be late 19th C or very early 20th C. It is unframed which will mean a savings in the shipping cost over a framed item. The canvas is 18.5\" high x 25.75\" wide. The canvas has very heavy impasto withscattered craquelure and several flecks of loss. There is a repair to a tear in the middle of the paintingand the small patch is visible on the verso. Please look carefully at the photos.
