This sale is for an extremely rare and beautiful 19th century Chinese hair crystal snuff bottle. It measures about 2.75\" x 1.25\" (at the widest point) x 0.50\". It has a flattened shape and small oval foot. As the foot is small, it is best displayed lying flat. This snuff bottle has abundant black tourmaline inclusions that resemble small pine needles. The spoon is no longer attached to the carved stopper but it sounds like it is still inside the bottle. There are some scratches, cracks and rough spots on the bottle but it is very stable. Please study the photos carefully as they are part of the description, especially the first photo where you can see a sort of starfish shaped group of fine cracks.

Snuff bottles of this type are extremely rare. If you have a chance, look at the hair crystal snuff bottle from the Joe Grimberg collection that Sotheby\'s sold in 2010 for $6,875.
