The tradition of the use ofthese boxes was a guest would give it as a wedding gift filled with food forthe betrothed couple. This box measures 15 X 8 ½ inches.
This was received from anestate in Charleston, SC and the previous owner purchased it on a tour ofChina.
The condition is excellent.Due to being more than a century old the wood has appropriately shrunk and themetal band does not fit flush and to top sits up slightly all noted in thephotos. The white are small pieces of felt to protect fine furniture.
