19th century Japanese four case carved black lacquer inro, Meiji Period (age, style, and wear appear more consistent with late Edo Period).Description: Base construction is wood overlaid with a carved black lacquer ground finish which alternates a polished and matte finish, one side features a sage surrounded by stylized clouds above among clouds, opposite side features chrysanthemum buds, intricately designed leaves, coordinate side carvings of scrolling vines and pomegranates, woven cord looped through all compartments fastened by glass ojime (1/2\") and finished with a carved turtle shell form netsuke (ox bone) (2\" x 1 1/4\" x 3/4\").Dimensions: Overall; 3\" x 2 1/2\" x 1 5/8\".Condition: Very good; chip in side of compartment two (see image #9, a couple of nicks at center just left of sage carving of compartment two (see images), to be expected rub wear in closures and compartments, overall near fine.
