19th c IRON MINI SMALL MINER\'S STICKING TOMMY LANTERN LAMP EARLY LIGHTING AAFA:

I am offering a hand forged iron Sticking Tommy or Miners Candlestick in a very unusual SMALL SIZE.....only 6 1/2\" long x 3 1/2\" wide overall, I have never seen another in this size. Most are between 9\" & 11 1/2\" long. The candle socket is 1\" in diameter. There are no markings. Definitely has signs of wear and use....I guarantee its age. A great piece to add to any early lighting collection or to use in your country kitchen or keeping room.
“According to Daryl Burkhard, author of Riddle in theMountain, particularly in the American West, the candle was the preferredform of lighting in the mines. Sometime in the 1860’s, Comstock area minersinvented the miner’s candlestick by bending the end of a spike to hold thecandle. The spike then could be jabbed into wooden support beams or crevices inthe stone walls to light the way. The first of this type was patented in 1872and sometime soon after, a hook was added to the many emerging designs.”
