DETAILS OF ITEM

This is an antique 19th Century Arita kiln Japanese Namasu bowl that measures 5.88 inches in diameter by 1.75 inches high. It was hand painted in blue and white Sometsuke and depicts a coastal scene complete with outlook posts, a bridge connecting two posts, the sails of boats and an island in the distance. The brown rim and sides of the bowl are scalloped.

The condition is extremely good especially considering its age from the 1880\'s to 1890\'s (mid Meiji era). It appears to have never been used over these many years. It is heavy for its size suggesting that it was heavily potted prior to firing in the kiln.
