ABOUT THIS PAIR ofCOVERS

The feature stamps on thishand-drawn, handpainted FDCs byHobby guru,Fred Collins, are the PO\'s2009Brown Pelicanand Northern Kelp Crabstamps, Scott # 4423A and I.

About the inspiration for these specialstamps: starting in 1999 withtheSonoran Desert 10-stamp sheet, and ending in 2010 with theHawaiian Rain Forest10-stamp sheet, the PO released, all together, 12 different sheet which theyaptly-named Nature of America. As you know, each entire sheet . . . stamps and thesurrounding areas . . .constituted stunningly beautiful artistry which highlightedsome of America\'s most heavenly patches of forest, deserts, prairies, underwater kingdoms, wetlands, etc. The stamps featured in this salecomes from the series\'11th year release, which the PO entitled the Kelp Forest.

About the Kelp Forest, itself : one of the things that makes the Kelp Forest so fascinating is that it is not a forestin the strict sense of the words, but rather part of an underground kingdom. Here\'s the way that thePO\'s 2009 Postal Service Guide to U.S. Stamps explains it --- \"A kelp forest is a remarkable undersea ecosystem, dominated by very large marine algae, more commonly known as seaweed, or kelp. These highly productive coastal waters sustain hundreds of species of marine algae and animals that make their home in the kelp forest. Small creatures such as snails and crabs climb on rocks or up blades of giant kelp where sea slugs cling, as colorful species if rockfish swim past . . .\" (Those of you who own a complete sheet of the Kelp Forest stamps will probably agree with me that is it quite an aquatic Wonder World. )

About thefirsthand painted cachet scanned below:onthis lavishly colored cachet, Mr. Collins zooms in on 5 pelicans who are just \"chillin\" on the rocks ofa west coast help forest, where a few western gulls join them . . . and all this set against a backdrop of utterly dreamy colors.

Aboutthe second hand painted cover scanned below : on this all-over cachet, Mr. Collins spotlights zooms in o pair of kelp crabs who are sneaking bya couple of feistyCalifornia sea lions . . . and, just like the first cachet, all this set against an utterly dreamy blending ofcolors.

All in all, averybeautifully laid-outpair of FDCs that are perfect compliments to each other.
