These diaries were written by different authors who wrote of their life duringthe twoWorld Wars. The1917 diary was by afemale college student who livedin Illinois, somewhere near Monmouth.She may have attended Monmouth College.The author wrote of her studies at school,her family and friends, outings and social events and the changing times. Shenoted the impending war,theLeague of Nations, President Wilson addressing Congress, the declaration of war on Germany. After the war began, she wrote of Wilson calling for 20,000 men for the Navy and of her cousin enlisting shortly thereafter, a friend being drafted, and of making arm bands to wear while collecting for the Red Cross.The young woman also wrote about a trip she made to Greeley Colorado to visit relatives. Traveling by train, she described the scenery as she passed through different states andnoted that all bridges and tunnels were guarded.The diary isa little over 3/4 full, she stopped writingin the middle of September. Measures about 6\" x 4\", the spine is weakening but pages are in good condition.The 1944 diary was written by Mrs J E Clark, of Marietta Ohio.That is the name written in the diary on the identification page, but she calls her husband \"Don\".Don is in the service, andwas gone the entire year.She once mentioned that Don was in France. The diary begins with the author\'s father becoming ill, and ofher having to take careof him. Following that, her old dog \"Perky\" also became ill,and shewrote of her heartbreak at having to put him to sleep.Throughout the diary, the author wrote of herloneliness, and thesad birthdays and holidays she spent without Don.She wrote him almost daily, and at times got very concerned oversome long stretches without hearing from him.
