Although we do not normally provide refining advice, a number of people have asked how to useFerrous Sulfate, sohere are recommendations consistent with C.M. Hoke's book... Dissolve one pound of Ferrous Sulfate (Copperas) in one quart of hot water, Hoke also suggests adding a small amount of HCl until the solution is green and somewhat clear. Added to aqua regia, this will precipitate 75 dwt or 116 grams of gold, assuming the pregnant solution is neutral. One advantage as a precipitant that is observed over SMB is Ferrous Sulfate can force small amounts of excess nitric from the solution, although this does consume more of the product.
