First of all, these two leaves have two (2) instancesof the large \"T\" design or symbol, which is known as\"taa\' marbuu tah,\" and it consists of three vertical columns and twowavy ornate horizontal strokes, and this symbol indicates the beginning of anew subject or section of the text. However, one of these \"T\"designs has been hand-colored with RED ink (see the first scannedimage). This has unique beauty! A piece of GREEN paperhas been placed under each side of the two leaves during the scans, so that thescanned images show the parts of the leaf that are missing.

The sale is for two (2) leaves of an Arabichandwritten manuscript (with writing on both sides), consisting of the Arabictreatise entitled \"al Furad al Wajibah\" or sometimes transliteratedas \"al Furat al Wajibah,\" which means \"The Necessary ReligiousDuties\" or \"The Obligatory Religious Duties.\" Thisisan important work in the Shafi\'i interpretation of Islamic law. Thisparticular handwritten manuscript dates to the early18th century. The size is about 5 in.x about 8 in.Eachof the sides has seven lines of beautiful text. Also, there areseveral marginal commentaries, written later by a different hand (see thescanned images). The manuscript is written in clear and handsomeNaskhi/ruq\'ah calligraphic script, in black ink, according to the style of Arabicwriting used in Indonesia. Thetext is written on hand-madetraditional paper called \"daluang\" or \"saeh,\" which is madefrom the bark of the saeh tree (Broussonetia papyfera) inIndonesia.You can see the wood fibers on the edges.This leaf hasdiscoloration and stain, dueto its use and age; theouter edges of the leaf are also wrinkled and torn, but the text is verylegible.
