This 2 lot of photogravures after paintings by Jean Leon Gerome (1824-1904) has outstanding clarity, a tribute to the photogravure process which is a type of etching after the transfer of the exact image to a steel plate by Goupil & Co. and published by Sam L. Hall, New York 1897. The first subject titled Bozzaris -- image and all within the plate line are flawless. Some light foxing to paper border, right side. Tissue guard still in place. Printed on chine colle' and mounted to heavier stock with nice pronounced plate line. The second image titled Bischari appears to be an Arabian warrior. Image is flawless. Water stain upper left corner penetrating within the plate line approximately 1". Tissue guard still intact.Total paper size for each 12 1/2" x 17 3/4" and 9 1/8" x 11 1/2" from plate line to plate line.BO290
